Starting the Startup Museum - ft. Jeffrey Gibson

Past event

Join us for the first part of a three-part discussion series and hear from our inaugural artist Jeffrey Gibson go deeply behind the scenes to hear a story that only we can tell. What does it take to start an experimental new arts organization in San Francisco today? What have we learned? What will we take forward?

This program will begin with a walkthrough with Ali Gass followed by discussion between Ali, Jeffrey Gibson (joining virtually), and Shannon Jackson.

Shannon Jackson is a scholar, teacher, and convener who specializes in cross-media and socially-engaged art practices. Her books include Social Works (2011), The Builders Association (2015), Public Servants (2016), Back Stages (2022), and, most recently, The Human Condition on media art from the Kramlich Collection where she also serves as Program Advisor. Shannon is Hadidi Professor at UC Berkeley and served as Associate Vice Chancellor for the Arts + Design from 2015-2022.
