Collectors play an important role in museums, even those that don’t have permanent collections. This panel will discuss philanthropy, lending works, and artist stewardship.

Jane Panetta is the Curator and Director of the Collection at Whitney Museum of American Art; she joined the Museum’s curatorial department in 2010. She is a member of the Whitney’s Emerging Artists Working Group and served on the curatorial team for America Is Hard to See (2015, led by Donna De Salvo), the Museum’s inaugural presentation in its downtown location. Panetta is also a member of Madison Square Park’s Public Art Consortium.
Michael Darling is Co-Founder and Chief Growth Officer of Museum Exchange, a position he has held since March 2021. From 2010-2021 he was the James W. Alsdorf Chief Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Chicago. Darling frequently serves as a panelist, writer, lecturer, and guest curator on contemporary art, design, and architecture
Wayee Chu is an avid art collector and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Leadership Board at the University of Michigan Museum of Art. Wayee’s professional career is in venture capital and finance, currently a General Partner at Reach Capital, a venture fund focused on early stage education technology start-ups.
